Why am I seeing higher than usual numbers of messages failing as spam?

A2P 10DLC Questions and Answers

Regulations change frequently within the telecom industry to ensure consumers are protected from illegal or fraudulent messages. Mobile phone carriers have rolled-out a new technology known as A2P 10DLC which is designed to recognize businesses as legitimate senders and stop unwanted messages from reaching consumers.

10DLC registered senders will see increased delivery rates while unregistered businesses will find that their messages are increasingly rejected as spam. These changes relate to the industry as a whole and are not specific to Drop Cowboy.

We know you may have a few questions. We're here to help your business navigate 10DLC and get registered as a verified sender!

What is 10DLC?

10DLC (10 digit long code) allows business owners to send Application to Person Text Messages (A2P). You can also think of this as "Drop Cowboy to consumer devices”. Businesses that register as 10DLC senders will see improved message delivery rates while unregistered businesses will find their messages increasingly filtered as spam.

What do I need to know?

Carriers are implementing a new verification process to accommodate bulk messaging platforms onto their network. In order to send text messages via A2P 10DLC you will need to register your business. Don't worry, we're here to guide you through the process of getting your business registered!

Will I be able to get higher delivery rates?

Registered 10DLC senders undergo a verification process and receive a "trust score" assigned to them by the mobile phone carriers. The carriers take your business's trust score into account when determining if your message should be delivered or rejected as spam.

When is the deadline to register my business?

The official deadline is June 1, 2021.

I'm already seeing increased spam filtering. Why?

Some carriers have already starting tightening their spam filters in anticipation of the June 1st launch date for 10DLC. This is resulting in increased spam rejection rates and is an industry wide problem not limited to just Drop Cowboy customers. Once 10DLC registration opens, we anticipate seeing improved delivery rates.

Is there a cost involved with registering?

Yes. Your business will undergo a verification process performed by the mobile carriers. They impose a fee to cover the labor involved with verifying your business, as well as a monthly fee for maintaining your registration status.

How do I register my business?

Drop Cowboy will help you get registered. Starting in May, you'll be able to complete the registration form within the Drop Cowboy portal and we'll help you every step of the way.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition and look forward to helping your business earn its trust score so you can attain those higher text delivery rates as soon as possible!
